It is not necessary to read any document before you notarize it. As a notary you are only concerned with the identiy of the signer, the date of the document and that all the blank spaces and lines are filled in by the signer or their agency. Also take note of the titel of the document for your journal and check for page numbers to make sure you are viewing the whole document. That's it!
It is not your responsibility as a notary to check for inaccurate information, fraudulent statements, however if you happen to KNOW that the document is fraudulent you are not obligated to notarize it. Simply note it in your journal for future reference if needed and report it to the local authorities or your notary regulating office.
Remember however, even though it is not your responsibility to read the document, be sure to remember that IT IS your responsibility to read the notary certificate the bottom the document to make sure it complies with notary statutes in your state and you will be held liable its accurate and truthfulness.
